Prospection of Potential Iron Deposit in Gandaki and Lumbini Province of Nepal Using Remote Sensing Technology

Integrated remote sensing and Geographic Information System provides an aid to find presence of metallic non-metallic minerals. This approach was used explore Iron deposits in districts Gandaki Lumbini province Nepal which 8 were identified as the reserves iron ores namely Nawalpur, Palpa, Baglung, Parbat, Syangja, Tanahu, Arghakhanchi Gulmi. These fall under various geological formation such Suntar formation, Melpani formation. formations are found be rich Remote Sensing (RS) Systems (GIS) offers a cost effective attractive strategy mineral prospection, notably for exploration project. Landsat satellite images, processed through band rationing method highlights hydrothermal alterations Oxide containing region. False Color Composite Principal Component Analysis sedimentary rocks. Each exaggerates spectral signatures surfaces by different colors indicating ores. Lineaments also extracted from images combining with Digital Elevation Model (DEM).Lineaments those structures that provide information about fault fractures on surface helps identify deposition zones. The result produced RS techniques introduced GIS environment. Potential content region using Suitability analysis i.e. multi criteria decision (MCDA). Map showing potential ore deposit map generated integrating results together reclassified into common scale overlaid suitable weightage. Final output/map indicates best possible sites detailed study demonstrates usefulness effectiveness other mapping.
